Javien Ruiz is Roselle’s Park’s Union County Conference Male Athlete of the Week.
Ruiz, senior midfielder, continued his stellar season by connecting for two dramatic game-winning goals in two days. On Friday, Ruiz broke a 1-1 tie when he volleyed in a shot with seven minutes remaining to lead the Panthers to a 2-1 victory over Wardlaw-Hartridge on the road.
The next day, Ruiz struck again as he connected in the first overtime period to boost Roselle Park over Highland Park 2-1 as the Panthers improved to 10-8 for the season. The two wins raised Roselle Park to the #8 seed in the Central Jersey Group I rankings and secured a home game for the Panthers in the first round of the sectional tournament.
For the season, Ruiz – a team captain – has five goals and three assists.
