Etienne Mbuyi is Summit’s Union County Conference Athlete of the Week.
Mbuyie joined the Hilltopper track and field Team as as a sophomore in the Spring of 2024 and carried a high level of confidence and expectation of himself from his endeavors as a full time swimmer.
Although Etienne did show potential in as a sophomore, the sport has a way to humble you and force you to make a choice about how good do you really want to be long term.
Etienne chose to commit himself completely to this sport, gave up swimming, and worked by himself in the summer to improve his sprinting form and start mechanics which led him to a breakout season in 2025, earning a place on the first leg of the school record setting and state sectional silver medalist 4×100 relay in the spring.
After bursting on the county scene in indoor season with a 6th place finish in the Union County Championships in the long Jump, which qualified him for Easterns where he set a 21’1’’ PB to end the indoor season, Etienne finished the outdoor season with a PB 21’7’’ in the event at the East Coast Championships.
Through it all, Etienne has developed into an impactful sprinter on the squad, a leader and an example to the younger sprinters on the squad, becoming the Captain of the 2026 Indoor Track and Field Team.
