Another week of Mid-State 38 football is in the books. Here are three things we learned from Week 3.

1. Somerville can play some D

Everyone knows Somerville’s offense is prolific. But the Pioneer defense was very impressive in the second half against Rahway. After allowing 28 points in the first half, Somerville held the Indians to just one touchdown in the second half en route to a 59-35 win.

2. Westfield could be the best team in the Mid-State

Bridgewater-Raritan is tops in the league by the rankings, but Westfield is starting to look like it has a senior case for the top spot. The Blue Devils were dominant against a previously undefeated Union team, with the defense impressing especially as it allowed hardly any rushing yards and just 13 points.

3. Elizabeth keeps rolling

One week after a must-needed win against Linden, Elizabeth moved to 3-2 on the campaign with an impressive win against Hunterdon Central. Jahmin Muse continued to shine with a pair of touchdowns, and a major test against Westfield is up next.
