The new Rutgers University Women’s Rowing coaching staff is introducing a program that will invest in and develop home-state athletes from other sports into top Division I rowers. Rutgers is in the strongest rowing conference in the country, the Big Ten. The Big Ten offers a ‘novice’ rowing experience and racing, in which athletes from other sports are taught everything they need to know about rowing in order to compete at the highest level. Rutgers has had a number of former New Jersey athletes who learned to row at the school and then went on to compete at the World Championships and Olympics for the United States at the Under-23 and Senior National Team levels. Rutgers is looking to build on this tradition by identifying the best up and coming athletes in New Jersey that have the potential to become elite rowers.

In order to introduce the sport of rowing to UCC athletes, Rutgers is hosting a clinic on its campus on Saturday, February 24th for seniors who want to learn more about this opportunity, the sport of rowing and tour the University’s top-tier on campus facilities. This could also provide the deciding factor for those who applied to Rutgers, and elsewhere, and haven’t made their college choice yet.

Information about the clinic can be found on the Rutgers website.
