Mike Fields, one of the top coaches in Union County for the last two decades, has been named the head boys indoor and outdoor track and field coach at Roselle Catholic, Fields said on Monday afternoon.

Fields, a star sprinter during his days at Roselle High, had a very successful run as the head coach at Roselle from 2001 through 2019, and he served as an assistant T&F coach at Kent Place in the spring of 2021.

Fields was the first Meet of Champions winner ever from Roselle, winning the 55 dash at the indoor M of C in 1995. And then during his coaching career at his alma mater, Fields coached the only other two M of C winners in Roselle history, Akheem Gauntlett, who won the 200 in 2008, and Jaheem Hayles, who won the 110 hurdles in 2019.

Fields is very excited about getting started at Roselle Catholic.

“I’m extremely excited to become a part of the Roselle Catholic track program, ” said Fields. “And I look forward to providing a positive impact on the program and the upcoming student athletes not only as athletes on the track, but as young men and women.”
