The Westfield boys left a lot of smoke on the track when the Blue Devils burned a 3:28.49, the fifth fastest time in NJ history and No. 1 in the nation this season, to win the sprint medley relay at the New Balance National Championships on Friday night at the Armory in New York.
In a battle between Union County rivals, Westfield finished just ahead of Union, who finished second in 3:30.91.
Westfield’s winning lineup consisted of Justin Colby (23.14) and Joseph Pierro (22.85) on the 200 legs, Charles Garretson, who split 50.24 on the 400, and Charles Stock, who anchored in 1:52.26..
The 3:28.49 by Westfield is the fastest time run by a NJ team since Union Catholic ran 3:26.16 to place third at the 2014 New Balance Nationals.
