Union Catholic Olympian Sydney McLaughlin opened her outdoor season by crushing another national high school record by running 38.90 to place first in the 300-meter hurdles at the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday night in California.
The Kentucky-bound McLaughlin, making her debut in the 300 hurdles, destroyed the previous national record of 39.98 set in 2001 by Lashinda Demus, who owns the American record in the 400 hurdles (52.47) and captured the silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games in the 400 hurdles.
