Josiah Cadet – Cranford: John recently won the North II Group III Sectional Title in the 55m High Hurdles with a personal best time of 9.68 seconds. The senior was also named the USATF (USA Track & Field ) New Jersey Athlete of the Year in the 55m hurdles. Josiah will represent Cranford High School at the State Group III Championships.

Johanna (Hanna) Capone – Cranford: Johanna, a junior on the winter track team, recently captured the North II Group III Sectional Title in the pole vault with a personal best of 9’3”. Hannah will represent Cranford High School in the State Group III Championships.

Jay’von Jackson – Saint Mary of the Assumption: On Thursday, February 1st Jay’von, a senior guard, scored 18 points in leading the Hilltoppers to a 67-50 win over Westfield. On Saturday, February 3rd he tossed in 19 points in a 75-51 victory over Elizabeth. For the season Jay’von is averaging 13 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game for the 14-5 Hilltopper squad that is currently ranked #10 in NJ.com’s top 20.

Natalya Torres and Jenna Weiss are Arthur L. Johnson High School’s recipients for female athlete of the week.  The two high jumpers have been working extremely hard on improving form and technique all season.  The hard work paid off in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 1 State Relay Championship Meet by placing 1st and capturing a State Championship for the program. Each jumper cleared 4’10 for a combined height of 9’8. More great things are sure to come for these two Crusaders.
